Description
Tungsten Carbide Forstner Style Bit Set - Small with 25mm FSBT for the peppercorn void.
Tungsten Carbide tips stay sharp longer than HSS as they resist wear. They are less likely to heat up during use and run at higher speeds than traditionally recommended for HSS bits. The speed obviously depends on the hardness of the wood - slower speeds are better with harder woods to avoid scorching but speeds between 1500 and 2000 rpm can be used on softer woods while achieving a good, clean cut.
This set contains the 4 diameter bits required for making both the CrushGrind Diamond shaft (195mm, 260mm & 470mm) and the shaftless Diamond Wood mechanism which is shaftless!
The 22mm diameter is for the stopper fixture at the top of the Diamond Shaft mechanisms.
The 25 - 32mm diameter is for the cavity for both Diamond Shaft & Diamond Wood. The diameter used is up to you - if you want a narrow waist on your grinder a 25mm void is preferable. If you want more peppercorns then the 28mm may suit you. If you are making a 470mm (tall) grinder and you intend to use a shaft support (CG-HOLDER) then you need to use a 32mm FSBT.
The 38mm diameter is for the grinding mechanism for both Diamond Shaft & Diamond Wood.
The 42mm is for the opening of the grinder for both Diamond Shaft & Diamond Wood.
These self centering woodworking Forstner bits are carbide tipped to cut cleanly through end grain making them perfect for pepper and salt mills.
The shaft diameter for the 22mm and 25mm bits are 8mm and for the 32mm, 38mm and 42mm it is 10mm.
Both shaft diameters will fit in the Forstner Bit Extension MT2 to ER16 collets (CT-EGDE-130) which will extend the drilling depth by an additional 130mm.
If you are making a 470mm Crushgrind grinder or deep hollow form you can add a further 150mm extension by adding the Extension to the Forstner Bit Extension (CT-EGDE-130-S150) to give a total length of 280mm!
