Hand cut dovetails remain the mark of a skilled cabinetmaker - they are the feature that buyers look for in premium quality furniture. Veritas bring this task within the reach of the experienced woodworker with their dovetail guides and dovetail saw.
The guides clamp into position and hold the saw at exactly the correct angle for the cut with the use of 19mm rare earth magnets. You'll still have to chop out waste from the tails and pins; but the detailed instructions included give you tips on how to do this quickly and accurately.
The guides come in traditional ratios of 1:6 (for soft woods) and 1:8 (for hard woods) and a 14 degree guide that is approximate a 1:4 ratio (preferred by many when working with thinner stock). The guides work with any backless saw that has approximately .005inch of set per tooth; but they work most optimally with Veritas' dovetail saw(05T02-03) which is designed specifically for use with these guides.
