Description

Normally; nicked blades will require a sophisticated grinder or a trip to a commercial sharpening service. Veritas' planer blade sharpener is designed to restore blades dulled from normal use; even if they contain minor nicks. It clamps blades 200mm wide (including hand plane blades) for sharpening on PSA backed abrasives. Just stick the abrasive to a flat surface; adjust the elevating screw until the bevel is flat on the abrasive and use it as you would any other honing guide.After basic sharpening; switch to a finer abrasive; turn the elevating screw a half turn or more and hone to a fine micro-bevel. It is easy and effective; letting you quickly restore blades that you would probably allow to become duller before sending them to a sharpening service.The jig is made of cast aluminium with brass and steel fittings. It comes with a half sheet of 15 micron (1000 grit) 3M micro-finishing film.
