Cabinet scrapers are among the most useful tools in a workshop. However; most woodworkers have difficulty putting the optimum hook on a scraper. Since scrapers have four working edges; it is possible to make one into a highly versatile tool with each edge having a different cutting characteristic.

The problem is choosing the best burnishing angle and then holding the burnisher at that angle.

Veritas' variable burnisher solves the problem and makes burnishing easy. The unit has a carbide rod in a brass hub held at an angle. A dial on the face of the body lets you set any angle from 0 to 15 degrees. Rotate the hub to the chosen angle and then lock it in position with the thumbscrew. Because the burnisher body is slotted; you can burnish a scraper with complete confidence that the correct angle is being maintained. Instructions included and it comes with a scraper to practice on.
