After many years of legendary service, The D4 has been upgraded. We are proud to introduce the new Leigh D4R.
Many of the design features found in the D1600 dovetail jig are incorporated in the new D4R. The one piece aluminium body has machined-in side stops ensuring accurate joint alignment and, like the D1600, both clamping surfaces have a machined-in, textured non-marring surface.
Also, like the D1600, the D4R has undercut side stops on the top of the jig enabling routing of rabbetted drawer fronts without offsetting the tailboard. The D4R retains the adjustable guide fingers of the D4. These ensure that you are never compelled to dimension your work to suit the jig - you simply adjust the guide fingers to suit your work. You are never limited to repetitive, clearly machine-made joints. In fact, the only obvious difference between Leigh dovetails and custom hand joinery is Leigh's consistently flawless fit.
The jig works with any router you own, using just two standard sizes of template guidebushes or Leigh's template guidebush adaptor system. The D4R can handle stock up to 24" (610mm) wide and 1-1/2" (38mm) thick. Five optional templates expand the D4R's capabilities to include finger (box) joints, Isoloc hybrid dovetail joints, multiple mortise and tenon joints, jumbo half-blind dovetails and variably spaced large finger joints. No other dovetail jig does so much so easily and so well.
